Ride Time Calculator for Ride Organisers

Planning an Audax brevet or randonneur event? Getting checkpoint timings right is critical for rider safety and ACP compliance. This free Audax ride calculator instantly computes opening and closing times for your entire route – from start to finish, including every control point. Simply enter your start time, total distance, and checkpoint distances, and the calculator does the rest using official 15 km/h minimum and 30 km/h maximum speed rules. Whether you’re organizing a 200 km populaire or a 1200 km super randonnée, this tool eliminates manual calculation errors and saves hours of planning time. Used by Audax clubs, ride organizers, and long-distance cyclists worldwide.

What is this calculator?

This tool calculates opening (earliest) and closing (latest) times for Audax cycling rides (brevets) and intermediate checkpoints according to official ACP / Audax rules.

It helps ride organizers and participants determine:

  • When a rider can first arrive at a checkpoint (opening time)
  • When a rider must arrive by to avoid time penalties (closing time)
  • The maximum allowed time for the entire ride

How the calculation works

According to Audax regulations:

  • Opening time = Start time + (Distance ÷ Maximum speed)
  • Closing time = Start time + (Distance ÷ Minimum speed)

Default speeds:

  • ACP / Audax standard: 15 km/h minimum, 30 km/h maximum
  • Fast pace events: 20 km/h minimum, 30 km/h maximum
  • Randonneur events: 13.3 km/h minimum, 30 km/h maximum

Custom speeds can also be entered manually.

How to use the calculator

Step 1: Enter basic ride information

  • Start date & time – When the ride begins
  • Total distance (km) – Full brevet distance (e.g., 200, 300, 400, 600, 1000 km)
  • Brevet type – Select from ACP/Audax, Fast pace, or Randonneur

Step 2: Adjust speed limits (optional)

  • Custom min speed – Override the default minimum speed
  • Max speed limit – Adjust the maximum allowed speed (default 30 km/h)

Step 3: Add checkpoints

Click the “+ Add Checkpoint” button for each control point along the route.

For each checkpoint, enter:

  • Distance from the start in kilometers (e.g., 50 for a control at 50 km)

Step 4: Calculate

Click “Calculate times” – the calculator will instantly show:

  • Opening and closing time for each checkpoint
  • Total time allowed for each segment
  • Finish line closing time

Example scenario

Ride: 200 km Audax brevet
Start: 07:00 on May 15, 2026
Checkpoints: 50 km, 120 km, 160 km

Results:

  • 50 km checkpoint: Open 08:40 | Close 10:20
  • 120 km checkpoint: Open 11:00 | Close 15:00
  • 160 km checkpoint: Open 12:20 | Close 17:40
  • Finish (200 km): Open 13:40 | Close 20:20

Important notes

  • Checkpoints are automatically sorted by distance – order doesn’t matter
  • Distances cannot exceed the total ride distance
  • Minimum and maximum speeds must be realistic (10–80 km/h range)
  • Times are displayed in local format: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM
  • The calculator follows standard ACP/ Audax regulations
