BRM200 | Cēsis Loop | LV
Date: Saturday, September 12, 2026 • Start Time: 08:00
Distance: 200km • Elevation Gain: 1,667m total climbing (cumulative over the full route, not the highest point reached)
Start Location: Sigulda (Leona Paegles iela 22 - car park)

This 200km route is an official ACP-certified brevet designed for experienced cyclists seeking a structured and rewarding adventure that combines distance, terrain, and self-sufficiency into a single test of endurance. The ride follows randonneuring principles—self-supported, unassisted between checkpoints, and run to a fixed time limit that rewards steady pacing over raw speed. Checkpoints along the way validate your progress and keep the ride honest, but beyond that you're on your own: managing your own nutrition, hydration, mechanical issues, and navigation using the provided GPX track. It's a format that has challenged and rewarded randonneurs for generations, and this event is no exception.

The Challenge: A 200km Journey

Terrain & Elevation
This is not a flat course. Over the full 200km route you'll accumulate 1,667 meters of total climbing—the sum of every rise on the route from start to finish, not the altitude of any single highest point. That distinction matters for pacing: the climbing is spread across the entire ride rather than concentrated in one big ascent, so the terrain will test your climbing legs and descending confidence again and again rather than just once. The route features rolling hills and sustained climbs that repeat throughout the day, so even without any single dramatic summit, the cumulative effort adds up and will keep you engaged mile after mile.

Time Limit
Participants have 13.5 to complete the full distance. This time limit includes all stops—you'll need to manage your pace, breaks, and checkpoint arrivals carefully to finish within the allowed time. We recommend planning your strategy in advance, including estimated arrival times at each checkpoint.

Self-Supported Philosophy
This is a self-supported ride with no following vehicle. You'll need to manage your own:

  • Nutrition & Hydration — carry enough or plan resupply stops
  • Mechanical Issues — bring tools and know basic repairs
  • Navigation — use the provided GPX file on a GPS device or cycling computer
  • Safety Equipment — mandatory lights, helmet, and reflective vest

Participants are encouraged to help each other, but official support vehicles will not be available on the route.

Mental Preparation (200km)

Mental preparation is just as important as physical training for long-distance cycling. Here are specific strategies to help you succeed in your 200km brevet.

Mindset for 200km

The 200km brevet is an excellent introduction to randonneuring. While physically demanding, the mental challenge is manageable with proper preparation.

Break It Down

Mentally divide the ride into 50km segments. Focus on reaching the next 50km marker rather than the full distance. This makes the journey feel more achievable.

Positive Self-Talk

Develop formula like "One pedal at a time" or "I've trained for this." Use these when fatigue sets in during the final 50km.

Expect the "Wall"

Most riders hit a mental low between 120-150km. This is normal! Plan for it — take an extra break, eat something enjoyable, and remind yourself that this feeling passes.

Visualization

Before the event, visualize yourself successfully completing each segment. See yourself at checkpoints, refueling, and crossing the finish line feeling accomplished.

Remember: Your body can handle more than your mind believes. When you think you're done, you're only 40% done mentally. The finish line exists — keep moving toward it.

"The body achieves what the mind believes." — Anonymous Randonneur
